Broadband: The Key to New Knowledge Creation for Community Anchor Institutions

Stacey Aldrich, State Librarian from Pennsylvania and Jarrid Keller, Chief Information Officer from the California State Library will kick off the panel by discussing new statewide assessment and simple tools they are developing to help libraries better understand what they don't know about their broadband services so they can better plan for the future.  The panel will conclude with a presentation from Ken Wall of Geodata Services, Inc. and the students of the small, rural Upper Swan Valley School which will show how they are using GIS for their normal curriculum with applications from math to world history and literature.  Via short videos, the students will present recorded demonstrations of the web maps and story maps they have prepared on their school's experimental working forest, historical homesteads and patterns of development in Swan Valley and Montana Tribal Nations and Reservations.
